170 Years of Sambonet: the 2026 Anniversary and the Rinascente Milan Campaign

In 2026 Sambonet turns 170 and marks the year with two projects: the reissue of a cutlery design from 1948 and a campaign at Rinascente Milan.

An anniversary that begins in 1856

Sambonet was founded in 1856 and has spent 170 years working on hospitality and table culture. To mark the anniversary the company chose to reissue a design from its own archive, the San Marco cutlery, rather than introduce a new commemorative collection. In the same year the brand joined Altagamma. Sambonet is today part of the Italian group Arcturus and is led by the second generation of the Coppo family

San Marco, a 1948 cutlery design back in collection

San Marco entered Italian restaurants and private houses in the middle of the last century and helped define the codes of post-war Italian silverware. The new collection is a faithful reconstruction of the original drawing — Sambonet still holds the historic 1948 moulds — inspired by the eighteenth-century Venetian lagoon tradition. Three details identify the design: the broad handle, the three-pronged fork and the curved line of the sabre-bladed knife.

The event at Rinascente Milan

From 14 to 27 October the Bar Mealthie, on design floor -1 at Rinascente in Piazza Duomo, is dressed with graphics and messages dedicated to Sambonet, and guests use Venezia Jet Set cutlery at the table — the best seller of the Sambonet corner at Rinascente.

Sambonet in its 170th year

Design, from the in-house studio to today’s collaborations

From the early 1960s Sambonet worked with the masters of Italian design, starting with Roberto Sambonet — who created the Fish Kettle, the Center Line and the Linea 50 trays, today in the collection of MoMA in New York — and with Gio Ponti. That design practice continues through the company’s in-house Centro Stile and in the recent work of Italian designers Serena Confalonieri and Gianni Cinti.

Hospitality as core business

The Cairo Hilton contract of 1956 marked the beginning of the company’s hotel business. That channel is today the core business of the brand and drives its international growth.

The Arcturus group and the current ownership

Since 1977 the current ownership has invested in the company, developing Italian manufacturing skill and quality on an international scale. Sambonet is today part of the Arcturus group, which has grown by building on the industrial and manufacturing experience of each of its brands and by expanding internationally in the art of the table.

What “The best for your guest” means

The Sambonet payoff names the person the product is ultimately for: not the buyer, but whoever finds it set in front of them. It is why the brand approaches a hotel table and a home table in the same way, and why an archive design such as San Marco returns in its silver-plated version alongside the PVD finishes — one shape, adapted to different service contexts.

In 2026. The company was founded in 1856.

With two projects: the reissue of the San Marco cutlery, reconstructed from the historic 1948 moulds, and a communication campaign at Rinascente Milan, in Piazza Duomo, from 14 to 27 October.

The Sambonet corner is on design floor -1, where the Bar Mealthie dressed for the campaign is also located. The Sambonet-Rosenthal Corner is on the sixth floor.
